Clear chunks of ice on black sand, with the foam of a wave around them

Glacier lagoon in two days

The floating icebergs of the lagoon and the “diamonds” on the black beach, without hurrying.

  • 2 days, 1 night
  • 4–12 people

What is the trip like?

On the first day we travel east along the south coast: Seljalandsfoss, lunch in Vík, an afternoon walk in Skaftafell. We spend the night in a small hotel nearby.

The next morning we are at Jökulsárlón while it is still quiet. In winter the ice cave trip starts from here, in summer we take the boat. In the afternoon Diamond Beach, then back to Reykjavík.

  • We booked for the ice cave and were not disappointed. At seven in the morning we were almost alone at the lagoon. The hotel was simple but clean and warm.

  • The first evening was cloudy, and Levente wrote in the afternoon that we should not go. The next day he took us above Þingvellir and the whole sky was green. Even my phone took good photos, because he showed me the settings.

  • Dóra guided the whole day in German, although half the group was Hungarian. We had an hour at Geysir and saw four eruptions. We would never have found the lunch place by the lake ourselves.

Questions and answers

Can we book the ice cave on its own?

We only arrange it with this tour, because the caves are five hours from Reykjavík.

Will we also see the northern lights?

From September to April we go out behind the hotel in the evening if the sky is clear. We cannot promise it, but it is dark there.
