Dóra and Levente, at home in Iceland

We have lived in Reykjavík since 2013. We show you what we love ourselves: quiet bays, hot springs and the blue ice of the glaciers.

Our story

We came to Iceland for a summer job: Dóra to a research station by Vatnajökull, Levente as a driver for a coach company. In September we did not book a flight home.

Dóra is a geologist and knows the volcanoes, glaciers and plates. Levente has driven winter roads for ten years and knows where the evening sky is clearer.

We started Bazalt Túrák in 2019 with one minibus. Today we run eight tours, and on the glaciers we work with certified glacier guide partners.

Who you will travel with

  • Dóra, the guide, in a grey hat and an orange scarf, with a waterfall behind her

    Dóra

    Guide and geologist

    Hungarian, German, English

She grew up in Sopron, near Austria, which is why she speaks German. She leads the glacier walks and the lagoon trips.

  • Levente, the guide, in a red jacket on a snowy road, beside an off-road vehicle

    Levente

    Guide and driver

    Hungarian, English

The man for the northern lights and the Ring Road. He checks the cloud map every evening, even when there is no tour.

What matters to us

We plan fewer places into a day, so there is time everywhere to stop, walk and eat.

  • Safety first

Every morning we check the weather and the road report. If it is not safe, we do not go.

  • Your pace

Where you want to stay longer, we stay. Where one photo is enough, we move on.

  • We look after the land

We stay on the marked paths, never step on the moss and take all our rubbish back.

  • Local food

We show you where locals eat lamb soup and which bakery makes the bread baked in hot ground.

How we plan your days

  1. 1

You tell us what you want

When you come, how many you are and what interests you. A few lines are enough.

  2. 2

    We send a suggestion

With a route, dates and a price, in writing.

  3. 3

    We agree and set off

If all is well, we book the days and meet you at your hotel.

  • The first evening was cloudy, and Levente wrote in the afternoon that we should not go. The next day he took us above Þingvellir and the whole sky was green. Even my phone took good photos, because he showed me the settings.

  • Dóra guided the whole day in German, although half the group was Hungarian. We had an hour at Geysir and saw four eruptions. We would never have found the lunch place by the lake ourselves.

  • I had never been on a glacier and was nervous about the crampons. The glacier guide was patient and Dóra walked beside us the whole way. The blue ice in the crevasses looks better than in any photo.

We are on the road during the day, so writing is the easiest way to reach us. We reply in the evening.Dóra and Levente, Bazalt Túrák
